13th December 2024

Dear Parents and carers,

It has been joyful to see so many of your children up on the stage for the Year R and KS1 nativities. The singing, the speaking and the signing were all fantastic. Some of the children told me they wished to do it all again on Friday, but sadly the stage and stable have now been disassembled and put away ready for another Year.

Last week I told you about the group of children who had volunteered for some additional singing outside school. This week I had the pleasure of listening to them in person and, like every adult that heard them, I was quite moved by their stunning voices. We definitely have some very talented children. The performance tomorrow is at the lights and I can tell you that, having tried to get tickets myself, it is currently sold out and has a waiting list! Good luck to all of the children involved.

Well done to our Year 3s and 4s this week who have got shining new Maths badges for all of their hard work in practicing and learning their times tables.

This week some children from Year 6 also attended a basketball competition at Harrow Way School. They really enjoyed it and won the respect award as well as the teamwork award.

We have had some concerns raised this week about how much the children are eating at lunchtimes. In the past, the system in KS2 has been that children have to put their hands up to have an adult check their lunchbox (and therefore how much they have eaten) before they leave the hall. It appears that this system is not currently working well enough and that some lunchboxes are being missed.  Hearing the concerns, I do agree that this system needed to be looked at again.

Starting today, we are trialling a new way of organising our lunchtimes, that doesn’t rely on children putting their hands up to get their lunchboxes checked and better ensures all lunchboxes will be looked at by adult before the children leave the hall. We will also continue to encourage the children to eat the lunches that you have provided as we always do.

Please do let us know if this is not having the desired impact of ensuring that children eat more of their lunches, as this is something we are very keen to work together to improve on.

Thank you to those of you that came along for a ‘Cuppa with SENCO’ this week. We hope you found the resources and information to be of use. Thanks again to Mrs. Armstrong and the Primary Behaviour Service for organising.

Please don’t forget that there are no clubs on next week. I also wanted to let you know that although next week has a festive theme to it, the children will still be doing all of their normal lessons in school right up until Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday night is the carol concert after school, where the gates will open for parents at 2:45pm. Please remember to let us know (google form below) if your child cannot stay to the carol concert next week on Wednesday after school. It just allows us to organise things better if we know in advance.

On Thursday next week, we have our school pantomime. Please ensure your child is in normal school uniform on that day. This year, Mrs Figueiredo has managed to get us front row seats, so we are looking forward to a great show!

Just a reminder that on the last day of term, we have our school Christmas dinner. Children will be allowed to wear Christmas jumpers on this day if they wish.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Mr M Kirk
