Dear Parents and carers,

This week all of the children have been working on their internet safety amongst other things, which has looked different in each year group but has promoted the important message that when we see something worrying online, we know to tell a trusted adult.

I did do a double-take this morning when the police drove up to the school, but then remembered that they were talking to Year R and Year 5 today. The children I spoke to at lunchtime said they had learned a lot about what the police do to keep us safe.

The police suggested that ALL children learn their home address and parents’/carers’ full names (and preferably addresses) as soon as possible, because on the occasions when a child gets lost, these pieces of information can be vital in locating attached adults. They mentioned that many young children can only say that they have lost ‘Mummy’ or ‘Daddy’ which doesn’t help narrow down the search in an emergency.

I know that there have been issues with the bus this week. Although the bus is not managed by the school, we will always do our best to get messages out to you all if there are ever any difficulties. On the occasions when it is late we will also ensure the children are looked after safely until it arrives.

SeaCity Museum and Southampton Art gallery have sent us a voucher code for discounted entry to those venues. I thought I would share the code in case any of you were thinking of heading that way over half-term. The code is CSLEARN.

Today is our PTA non-uniform day, along with a bake-sale and uniform sale after school. Please do come and have a look at both.

Your children should already have arrived home with a book voucher this week, and there was a letter that went out yesterday about it. I hope you all have time to exchange these for one of the free books over half-term.

Following the 500 words competition, we had 4 children that made it into the later stages (which is amazing!) and we had one girl (in Year 3) whose writing came back as highly commended from the BBC. Well done to everyone who took part.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term,

Yours sincerely,

Mr M Kirk
