21st June 2024
Dear Parents and carers,
In all my years at Clatford, I have never known a term like this for Sports. Our cricket team played against Amport at home yesterday and managed a convincing victory. Both teams played well and between the sportsmanship and the sunshine it made for a grand afternoon. The team have now qualified for the county final in Southampton on Tuesday. I am beyond proud of their achievements, and very grateful for Mr. Murphy for ensuring they have had lots of extra practice at lunchtimes.
However, this unexpected additional date has meant that we are having to move some things around to compensate. We didn’t want the cricket children to miss their class photos because they are representing the school.
Class photos are now as follows:
Class photos for Year R, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 – Tuesday 25th June (as planned)
Class photos for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 – Friday the 28th June (new date)
Year 6 visited Winchester Cathedral this week and shared some incredible clay artwork they had made in school this week with Mrs. Coles. They then took part in the church schools leavers’ service. The artwork has now become part of an installation alongside artwork from different schools across the county. An impressive achievement.
Next week is a busy one in school (as always at this time of year) as we have several trips and activities going on. Year 3 are on a local archaeological dig on Tuesday and on Friday are heading to Kew Gardens. Year 1 are out on Friday afternoon, showcasing their incredible country dancing skills. I have seen some sneak previews in the hall and know they will be amazing.
The whole of KS2 are involved with dress rehearsals next Wednesday, ready for their performances at the lights the following week. Years R,1 and 2 are also joining them to watch. Thank you to every one of you who has helped with costume making in the lead up to this big event.
In addition to this, we also have children competing in the Hampshire Chess Megafinal on Sunday, which is an all day event held in Winchester.
Next week we also welcome some of our new Year R children (ready for September) for a morning visit to the school. I know you will join me in wishing them well as they begin their Clatford Journey.
We have had a few reports of children not behaving in a helpful manner on the bus, both in the mornings and on the way home. Last week I received multiple reports of distracting or inappropriate behaviour. Although the bus service is not managed by the school I wanted to let you know that I am working with Pikes to produce a bus code of conduct that we could share with the children. In the meantime, I will be reminding the children in school to behave on the bus, as they would if a teacher was present.
Hoping to see lots of you tomorrow on the colour run and looking forward to working together to raise some money for our play areas in the playground. I hope to be unveiling our new playground areas in September if all goes according to plan!
Stay well and may peace be with you all,
Mr M Kirk
