Class 5 - Going with the Flow!
Yesterday, our year 5s went on a trip to the Oakhanger stream near the village of Selbourne. Once there, we visited the Gilbert White Field Studies Centre and learned about how Gilbert White became one of the fathers of ecology by studying what was in his own beautiful village. The children performed depth studies, explored the river, identified wildlife and examined how the flow of the river changed at different points along it. We had lots of parent helpers for the day, which was amazing, and in the afternoon we all walked together up the zig-zag-path to the top of a hill where we explored the horizon for evidence of rivers and their impact on human settlements and the environment. Today we have been creating art; exploring rivers poems and words and learning how to apply our geographical rivers vocabulary to real life contexts. A busy and watery week!
