Letter 2nd May 2025
2nd May 2025
Dear Parents and carers,
Firstly this week, I would like to say a huge congratulations to Mrs. Jordan who has recently announced that she is expecting her second child. We couldn’t be more pleased for her!
Sun Safety
Now that we are beginning to see warmer days again, I wanted to remind you about the school’s approach to sun safety.
On days where we are likely to have a lot of sun, please apply sunscreen to your child before they leave for school in the morning. Please send sunscreen into school in a clearly labelled bottle in your child’s school bag (in a waterproof bag in case of leaks) ready for when it needs to be reapplied. Where possible please could your child practice so that they are able to reapply this for themselves. However, we do know that some children, particularly in our younger year groups, may need adult support to do this.
When we have particularly warm days outside, we will also be encouraging the children to split their time on the playground and field between our shaded and unshaded areas. We will also be encouraging them to drink more fluids as the weather warms up in order to keep them safe and hydrated.
To summarise:
- If it’s going to be a sunny day, apply sunscreen to your child.
- Send your child to school with a clearly labelled bottle so that they can reapply it themselves if possible.
- We will help your child reapply sunscreen if they need support.
Hillier’s Arboretum
Year R had a brilliant time at Hiller’s Arboretum Gardens this week, and had lots of opportunities to interact with plants and things that grow, as part of their ‘planting and growing’ topic. I know we had lots of great parent help for this trip, which would not have been able to run without it! Thank you everyone.
Plant Warning
Just to make you aware that there are lots of ‘Cuckoo pint’ growing locally at the moment which is poisonous and can severely irritate the skin. Please be cautious.

PTA
I have to say a big thank you to the PTA for a successful jumble sale at the weekend. When I got there, there was already queue at the door and we did receive a brilliant amount of donations. I was also impressed at the organisation, as the remaining ‘jumble’ was very quickly collected, donated and recycled so that by the end of Monday it had all disappeared. Thank you to everyone that donated or came to support on the day. Don’t forget that on the last day of this half-term the PTA have their bake sale and non-uniform day.
The colour run details and sponsorship forms will be sent to you early next week so please keep your eyes open for that. Last year it was a fantastic event and a lot of fun for all involved.
VE Day
The school have planned an act of worship and are practicing a song ready for the 80th Anniversary of VE day next week. The song is called the I’ll Remember Song and is available on the Royal British Legion website if you were interested in listening to it with your children beforehand.
KS2 SATs and Music Afternoon
Year 6 have their SATs starting on 12th May. As usual, the attitude of our children as they approach their exams has been fantastic. Mrs. Coles and the Year 6 team are incredibly proud of how hard all of the children have worked leading up to this set of exams. We also have our school music afternoon to look forward to in the following week, where we have performers from many different places (including some of you!) in a brilliant informal afternoon of celebrating music at Clatford. Please remember to return your completed reply slips if you would like to take part by Tuesday 6th May.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable bank holiday weekend.
Mr M Kirk
