Dear Parents and carers,

Just a few short messages and notes of thank from me at the end of term:

Thank you to everyone who supported the carol concert this week and the Year 6 bake sale. Year 6 did a fantastic job with their stall and I know many of you took advantage of the PTA’s hot chocolate station. It was lovely to welcome so many of you to the school at once. A special thank you to the PTA who managed to raise £777.00 on the raffle and hot drinks.

This morning Year 4 are participating in a charity run (for the Countess of Brecknock) on the school field inspired by the courage and empathy of one of the children in the class. A good reminder from them, that Christmas is a time to consider the people most in need. Well done Year 4, your courage inspires all of us!

The pantomime was exceptionally good fun as we were right at the front of the theatre. We definitely felt like we were part of the action!

Clatford School is committed to diversity, inclusion and equality across the whole of its curriculum. It is an area of education that is exceptionally important and one where I think we could be doing more. As a result we have some staff training next term and are working with RADE (Rights and Diversity Education) at Hampshire to work towards ensuring these elements are fully embedded within our school curriculum and culture.

We are finishing the school day at normal time today, after what I’m sure will be a very festive Friday. The diocese sent me some straw in a card this week and, having not received straw in a card before, I asked them what its purpose was. What they told me was that in many Christian houses all over the world a piece of straw is added to a Christmas tree’s decorations to remind families that the story of Jesus started humbly in a stable and that for every dinner-plate that was full at Christmas, there were other plates elsewhere that remained empty. A reminder that it is a season for counting all of our blessings.

Wishing you all peace and joy over the next few weeks and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday the 6th of January in 2025!

Mr M Kirk
