  • Year Five River Investigation

    Thu 07 Oct 2021 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins

Last week, Year Five had an incredibly busy day following the River Anton from its source to its mouth as part of the River Test.  It was a fabulous day, the sun shone and we were blessed with stunning views throughout the day.

We were lucky enough to stomp up through the old watercress beds to observe the source of the river, kick sample to investigate how healthy the river was near the source and learn the history of the Anton Lakes.  We then boarded our coach and followed the river as it joined as a tribuatory of the River Test, before heading to a local fish farm to observe the river at work.

After a beautiful walk along the river and a hasty lunch in the barn! we found ourselves coach bound again, following the Test as it flowed through Romsey before heading to Totton to witness it hard at work at Eling Tide Mill, powering the mill to grind the wheat and produce flour.  The visit culminated in watching the River flow out to join Southampton Waters.

A lovely, interesting Geography day with a fabulous group of children! Perfect x

  • E-safety council

    Thu 07 Oct 2021 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins

It has been so exciting to be able to finally get our school councils together in person.  Last year, we all spoke over google classrooms from different spaces around the school.  Whilst the children adapted to this brilliantly, it is lovely to be able to chat together .

This fabulous team are the KS2 E-safety council.  At our first meeting, we discussed what our role was and how we could help each other to stay safe online.  We launched our e-safety books, which will stay in our individual classrooms; these will enable any child in the classroom to share any concerns they have about the internet. The book will be looked at regularly by the e-safety council who will pass any concerns on to their teachers, myself or Mr Kirk.

I'm sure this team are going to be a fabulous voice for all the children in the school. We will keep you updated.
