  • Gabe from NASA

    Thu 26 Apr 2018 M Kirk

The children in my class thought I was telling an elaborate joke when I told them that we had a visitor from NASA but on this occasion it was definitely true. Gabe (who works at the Kennedy Space Centre) inspired all of KS2 that afternoon with his very clear messages about mindset, challenge and the things that we can all do if we reach for the stars. He suggested we should enjoy what we do, believe in ourselves and never give up. The children asked some amazing questions and although nobody walked out of the hall thinking that becoming an astronaut would be easy, Gabe had us all thinking that if that's what we really wanted to do we should put the effort in to follow our dreams.

He also showed us how our school could be part of a space expedition by sending our name into space. Our name will be on a probe that gets closer to the sun that any man made object ever has before. We are looking forward to seeing it's launch and hearing all about it's progress towards our closest star.

  • Eggs is Eggs

    Tue 24 Apr 2018 M Kirk
This week was a very exciting week for Clatford because it saw the addition of, what could be as many as, six new heartbeats in the school. A standard incubation period for a chicken is 21 days and by ensuring the heat, humidity and conditions are just right we hope that at the end of that 21 days that these eggs produce some lovely chicks. We are definitely not eggs-perts in this field but we're definitely learning alongside the children and praying we are able to keep as many as possible healthy and well. Watch this space for updates!
  • Hampshire at the Hall

    Mon 23 Apr 2018 M KIrk

On the 23rd of April we took an amazing group of our Year 6 children to perform in the Royal Albert Hall. The concert was an amalgamation of work from lots of the schools that Hampshire Music Service work with as well as many of the groups that they support.  Some particular highlights included the National Youth Choir and a rousing chorus of "Land of Hope and Glory." There were fireworks, there were balloons dropped from the ceiling, there was dancing and there was definitely singing.

The Clatford team were performing with the joint samba band  (having been supported by Hampshire Music Service alongside Mrs. Isaac) in developing a set piece. The children all understood their rhythms, dance moves, patterns and leads-ins and put on a fantastic show to a buzzing Royal Albert Hall audience who (if their cheers were anything to go by) were as wowed as I was.
