  • Christingle

    Fri 30 Nov 2018 M Kirk
Over the last week, many of our children have collected money to support the Children's Society. They have collected this money in cardboard candles and have considered how giving to others is like shining their light. Today we gathered in a range of mixed year group classes and the children made their own Christingles, before lighting them in our special service in the hall. As always, there was an audible gasp of joy from the children as the lights went out and we were lit by all of the children's flames. A very special service.
  • Launching of Viking boats in the rain!

    Thu 29 Nov 2018 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
The gales, rain and hail would not have stopped the Vikings from rampaging across the North Sea...and it did not stop Year 4 from launching their Viking, junk modelling, Long Ships. Some triumphed above the elements...some wished they had reinforced their vessels!
  • Online Safety Update

    Tue 27 Nov 2018 M Kirk

I have added a few more links and documents to our online safety area of the school website this morning. You can follow the link below to have a look.

Last year our school received their National Online Safety Mark and we are keen to keep it up. The e-safety council have been busy this year making sure the children are using the safest sites and have been helping us understand the way that children are choosing to use online resources in 2018.

One of the things the older children in the school have told us that they are doing is playing online games such as Fortnite and as NOS are aware of this too they have produced some advice for parents about Fortnite and other games to help people use these elements safely. Please note that Fortnite in particular is specifically aimed at children who are aged 12 and above.

There are many other useful links on our safety website but if you feel worried about any issues regarding pupil's safety online, either at home or at school, please let us know. We know that by working together we can make sure our children all become thoughtful and safe digital citizens.

  • Knitters to help the special care baby unit

    Fri 23 Nov 2018 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
With the amazing patience and generosity of the ladies and gentlemen from the church, Year 4 have begun their latest exciting project! They have decided to try to knit squares for the babies and mothers at the special care baby unit at Winchester hospital. These will enable both the mummies and the babies to learn each others smells, and make this tricky time a little easier. We thought we would share with you the progress made so far, and will continue to share with you the finished articles.
  • Preparing for bug hibernation!

    Fri 23 Nov 2018 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
The gardening club have been completing a survey over the last couple of weeks, of the amount of bugs in our school grounds.  We were a little concerned over our results, and decided that we needed to give the bugs a helping hand to survive the winter.  This week, the club have built bug hotels.  We hope that this will give a variety of insects somewhere to keep warm over the coming months.
  • Viking attack at Ufton Court

    Fri 23 Nov 2018 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
Year 4 spent last Friday exploring the wonders of  Viking life.  They travelled to Ufton Court, ready to learn more about the invaders and raiders.  They were not disappointed! They enjoyed learning how to light fires, build enclosures for their animals as well as weaving wool to make their clothes.  This was followed by the chance to learn a selection of Viking children's games.  All this before lunch!  Refuelled and ready for action, the children strolled into the woods where they prepared for battle with their Viking trainer, Alfrick! Fully trained in battle combat they roared onto their Long ship and set sail to raid and destroy... stealing from far flung lands!
  • We're All Wonders

    Thu 15 Nov 2018 M Kirk

This week has been anti-bullying week at Clatford and the children have been doing a wide range of activities around the theme of "choosing respect!" We have been sharing books and stories, learning how to keep ourselves safe online, wearing odd-socks to celebrate uniqueness and creating slogans to remind each other of the importance of kind words. Year 5 have written a song to remind us all of some of these important messages. Please find it by following the link below.

  • Building Bridges

    Tue 13 Nov 2018 M Kirk
It has been an exciting week of bridge-building in Year 5 this week. We have learned lots about how to saw and glue safely, as well as how different shapes can make a structure strong. We definitely ran into some problems along the way including using the right angles, strengthening the joints and developing techniques for sawing. In doing so the children became quite adept adapters as they solved all these problems along the way. They wanted to share their hard work with everyone, so here are some of their pictures.
