  • Big Soup and Wateraid

    Thu 10 Oct 2019 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
Year 4 would like to say a massive thank you to all of our friends and family for coming to support us and Wateraid today. Working together, enjoying our harvest, we managed to raise over £90.  This is enough to make a massive difference to those communities that do not have access to their own clean water. We also thoroughly enjoyed sharing our harvest through our scrummy Big Soup. Thank you to everyone who helped us....especially Year One for their amazing bread rolls!
  • HelloYellow

Thu 10 Oct 2019 Mrs Britten

Happy #HelloYellow day! A brilliant day where everyone shone!

Thank you everybody for taking part and supporting YoungMinds.

An amazing message that we are not alone and are all here for each other smiley

  • Online Safety Update

    Wed 09 Oct 2019 M Kirk

I have heard from our E-Safety council this week that some children are feeling worries at the moment about computer games, and in particular playing games online. Many children are confused about the things they are allowed or not allowed to do at home, and many have had stories about experiences that they found uncomfortable or worrying.

I wanted to remind everyone they could find advice about many online safety issues on our 'Parents' section of the website. We have just uploaded a new document with some advice about children who play video games which I thought was interesting and definitely worth a read.

Our E-safety council have also sent a survey out this week to find out more about how our children at school use computers. It is a changing world and only by working with our children on this will we stand a chance of keeping up with it! Please could you help us out by filling it in if you get a chance. We are intending to have another e-safety workshop at school soon and it would be a helpful way of letting me know of any worries you have in particular so I can make sure I built that into our meeting.

Thanks for your help in this. I know that between home and school our children are very lucky with the consistent messages they receive and whenever I ask a child what to do if they feel worried online ... the response is overwhelmingly reassuring. It can be a confusing and scary world online but between us all we are doing a good job!

  • Harvest Singing

    Tue 08 Oct 2019 M Kirk

A bigger thank you to everyone that donated to Andover Food Bank this week at our Harvest Festivals. We had our best ever attendance at our KS1 and KS2 events and, despite getting very soggy on the way back from our KS2 service, the children enjoyed their day and were able to share some truly special offerings. Here is a link to the song Year 5 sang as just a flavour of the many things that went on.

  • Class 5 - Going with the Flow!

    Thu 03 Oct 2019 M Kirk
Yesterday, our year 5s went on a trip to the Oakhanger stream near the village of Selbourne. Once there, we visited the Gilbert White Field Studies Centre and learned about how Gilbert White became one of the fathers of ecology by studying what was in his own beautiful village. The children performed depth studies, explored the river, identified wildlife and examined how the flow of the river changed at different points along it. We had lots of parent helpers for the day, which was amazing, and in the afternoon we all walked together up the zig-zag-path to the top of a hill where we explored the horizon for evidence of rivers and their impact on human settlements and the environment. Today we have been creating art; exploring rivers poems and words and learning how to apply our geographical rivers vocabulary to real life contexts. A busy and watery week!
  • Investigating Historians in Winchester

    Thu 03 Oct 2019 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins
I was so proud to take Year 4 to explore their Anglo-Saxon heritage in Winchester this week.  Their politeness, respect and care shone out of them all day. The class had a fabulous morning working as historians in Winchester museum; handling Saxon pots and really getting into the role of an Anglo-Saxon, before embarking on the epic undertaking of Winchester Cathedral. We are now ready to use all of our wonderful knowledge in our Invaders and Settlers topic.
