Sat 30 Jun 2018 Clatford School PTA

Many thanks to everyone who came and made Clatfest such a huge success. The music and events were all fantastic, the stalls were lots of fun and after an afternoon of fun in the sun everyone I saw leaving had a huge smile on their face. Well done Clatford School PTA for an amazing afternoon.

  • Osmington Bay Day 4

    Fri 22 Jun 2018 Year 6
    Morning all,
So yesterday was fab! It was amazing to see all the children try something new and push themselves to face their fears. The encouragement and support from the others was lovely and we as teachers, felt so incredibly proud of them all!

Everyone enjoyed the disco and scrubbed up well- pics to follow. We had a good boogie and returned to our rooms for some  silly games before bed. We enjoyed lots of laughs and slept well after a very busy day!

This morning, we packed our bags, stripped our beds and after breakfast, headed back to Portland for a morning of water sports. The weather is just gorgeous!

There are a lot of tired but happy little peeps- but we have thoroughly enjoyed spending our week with them. The children have been a credit to you all!

    See you upon our return.

    Day 2 - the afternoon

So a great afternoon had by all. Group 2 went sailing and had a brilliant time out on the water! The conditions proved tricky though, as we battled with a thick mist coming in over the sea. It was great fun steering the boat and we loved learning about how to tack.

Group 1 went on the giant swing, which was awesome and went really high. It really got your tummy as you pulled the rope! Some of us screamed so loudly!  We even practiced shouting out our lines as we dropped!
We then played aeroball, which is a trampoline where you try and score a goal in the jets around you, in teams. We loved this and had a great laugh. Mrs lundie and Sophie won the game- even Mr Hopkins had a bounce!

Group 2 went off to the quad bikes, it was not as fast as we had all hoped- but we understood it was ‘safety first’. We then did the giant swing, which we too thought was great fun. We all had several goes. We really had to work as a team to pull the ropes and hoist each pair up to the top.

Tea went down well as it was chicken nuggets or lasagne and potato wedges. We were all a bit tired by the end of the day, but managed to survive a game of capture the flag, along with the longest line game, before heading back for a shower and bed.

Mrs Lundie and the staff have been so proud of us all- we’ve really tried everything and been really caring and supportive of each other. We even made a team music video- a little improvised but a great laugh.... watch this space!

Missing you all, but having a great time. Sill keep you all updated about tomorrow’s activities . X

    Hi all,
The weather here is gorgeous! Great morning so far!
Group 1 did the zip wire this morning, which was brilliant, but scary! All of us overcame our fears and succeeded with encouragement. Most of us did the jump but everyone had a go up the tower.
We then did street surfing- we all had so much fun learning to ride a rip stick with great success! Our leader was so impressed with us all. There was lots of falling off, but we all kept on getting back up!

Group 3 went on the giant swing, which was really scary- most of us went to the top. When you pulled the cord there was a sudden drop and we all screamed or adopted a look of fear! We also did Street surfing which was really funny! There were lots of dramatic falls and the instructor decided he should invent a ‘bottom protector’ for some of us! It was very good fun though! Our instructor was awesome and a bit of a show off- he was brilliant fun!

Group 2 had loads of fun! We loved the street surfing and a couple of us were naturals! We did a competition to try and do the funniest fall- Mark and Tom took some beating! We even came up with some dance moves: ‘scrape the dog poo’ and ‘the wiggle’ these really helped us with our footwork on the board.
Zip wire was fab, we were all excited but a bit nervous! A few of us were really afraid of the height,  but we conquered our fears- going part way up the ladder!

We are looking forward to our afternoon of Climbing, quad biking and aeroball !

  • Osmington Bay Day 2

    Wed 20 Jun 2018 Year 6
    Day 2

After a hearty breakfast of sausage sandwiches and cereal, group 1 &2 went off Keelboat sailing, which was really exciting! The PGL staff made it great fun and we all had a chance to steer the boat, taking it turns to jibe. Although it was cold we weren’t put off, and loved every minute! We have some keen sailers amongst us- especially Mrs Fawdry and Oliver!

Group 3 did zip wire and buggy building. The zip wire was very highly ( a bit too High for some) but we all had a go and loved that it was so fast!  In buggy building we learnt how to tie lots of knots; a figure of 8, square lashing and a clove hitch. The buggy stayed together which was brilliant.

Off to lunch soon. Text later

    Good morning all!

Day 1 - Year 6 Blog ( minus the required technology and access to internet- hence improvisation!)

We’ve had a great first day! The coach journey was good and we all sang and loved chatting to our friends.

We arrived on site to some very strange weather! Whilst it was warm, there were strange cold patches as we entered the mist that was rolling in from the see. It soon became a beautiful sunny day- perfect for buggy building and a beach walk!

Buggy building was great fun and we had a chance to race down the hill on what we had made- even Mrs L had a ride! Some of our buggies weren’t meant to last however, and a few adjustments were needed!

The beach was beautiful! We learnt about the tales of saved soldiers and pirates! Looked for treasure and found fossils- we were thrilled to find actual footprints. Don’t worry, we have our body weight in pebbles to bring back and show you!

Our meal was Spaghetti bolognaise or pork casserole- which we devoured in seconds!

The evening was filled with wacky races! With team games to form our team songs,  (very creative videos to follow) making the longest line, mummifying our friends in loo roll and generally just having fun.

This hyped us up, ready for bed! Luckily we have the latest breakfast spot, so we can stay in bed to catch up on some well needed sleep!

Looking forward to the day ahead! Keelboat sailing, zip wire and giant swing!

    Bye for now!

  • Year 4 Camping

    Sat 16 Jun 2018 Mrs Oliver-Hawkins

Year 4 have had an exceptionally busy 36 hours. After working hard all day at school, the children popped home to collect all of their camping belongings and returned to school at 5.30 ready for their latest adventure! After an investigative nature hunt, the children had to undertake the exceptional challenge of learning how to erect thier tents under the guidance of their teachers and Mr Oliver.  They did amazingly well - it was no mean feat!

They then played cricket before harvesting their salad from the vegetable patch for their dinner.  A great feast was had thanks to the wonderful catering team of Miss Rice and Mrs Carr! The children were brilliant at washing up and clearing well.  I'm sure the parents will be proud!

This was followed by a beautiful camp fire, where the children were entertained, under the watchful eye of Mr Oliver and Miss Rice, with Mr Kirks and Mr Stephens' varied entertainment! They were certainly ready for their hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

After an uneventful (if somewhat short!) nights sleep the children were up bright and early for tent inspection ready for a skip to be fit session with Miss Green before breakfast...phew! We were so grateful for the governors and Mrs Britton who arrived en masse with a barbeque to feed the hungry troups thier breakfast.

By 9.15 we were ready to set off on our exploration of the village.  The children put all of their training into practise as they set their map to ground and followed their route plan.  They were certainly ready for a cheeky choclate break! A demonstration of their compass reading was followed by a leisurely walk back to school ready to strike our camp and await the parents.

We had an amazing 36 hours.  Thank you so much to the children and all the adults for making this such a lovely, if slightly tiring, experience!

  • Year 3 explore Fishbourne Roman Palace

Mon 11 Jun 2018 Miss Green

On Thursday 7th June, Year 3 became experimental archaeologists for the day and went to explore Fishbourne Roman Palace in Chichester.

This is what they had to say:

"We had so so so much fun."

"Firstly, we went to a workshop and I made a mosaic, wrote my name, surname and age in ink in Latin. I also played a game where you need to get the ball in the pot. I learnt in the workshop that children were sold to grown ups to be slaves."

"The mosaics were so interesting but the best one was the dolphin mosaic because it had lots of different things on it like: leaves, a dragon, a trophy and a man riding a dolphin. The gods put mistakes in to show that everyone is not perfect."

"We saw the hypocaust which is underfloor heating. After we saw lots of mosaics, we went into the garden and laid down on the Triclineum which is where the Romans ate."
